About the Engagement
DWP is seeking a tech-savvy, mission-driven independent contractor to produce engaging social media content and provide occasional administrative support. This opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about disability rights, digital storytelling, and advocacy to drive meaningful change for people with disabilities. You will collaborate closely with DWP’s communications team to create creative, accessible content and coordinate digital engagement efforts.
Applicants must have their own equipment, a stable internet connection, and a dedicated workspace. Occasional work-related travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Creation: Produce original, visually compelling posts, short videos, infographics, and accessible content aligned with DWP’s mission.
- Social Media: Strategically plan and schedule engaging content for multiple platforms to support advocacy initiatives, organizational priorities, and events.
- Community Storytelling: Identify, curate, and amplify meaningful stories from the disability
- Advocacy & Awareness: Create persuasive, accessible advocacy materials including social media content, email campaigns, newsletters, and community updates with clear calls to action.
- Brand & Messaging Consistency: Ensure all content adheres to DWP’s branding guidelines, consistent messaging, and accessibility standards.
- Accessibility Standards: Adhere strictly to digital accessibility standards (e.g., alt text, captioning, readability) across all visual and written content.
- Administrative Support: Provide occasional administrative assistance, such as scheduling meetings, managing documents and communications, supporting event logistics, and maintaining internal records.
Qualifications & Skills
• Proven experience in content creation, preferably within nonprofit or advocacy settings.
• Proficiency with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva).
• Familiarity with social platforms (Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook).
• Tech-savvy, experienced with Google Workspace, Zoom, and WhatsApp for remote team collaboration.
• Strong organizational skills; capable of managing multiple tasks independently and coordinating with remote team members.
• Essential knowledge and commitment to accessibility standards for digital content (Alt-text, captions, etc.)
• Excellent written communication skills in English with strong attention to detail.
• Bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset for content creation and community engagement, though not required.
